Decolonizing Stories of Land and Water

Lunchtime story-telling with shalan joudry and Sarah Prosper

March 17, 12:00-1:30

In anticipation of shalan joudry's theatrical performance Koqm opening at the Neptune Theatre, shalan and Sarah Prosper talked about the inspiration behind Koqm and Samqwan. We then reflected on their stories, relating them to our own experience.

shalan joudry is an oral storyteller, poet, actor, playwright, podcast producer, and cultural interpreter from L’sitkuk (Bear River, NS). Her theatrical performance, Koqm, opens at the Neptune Theatre in Kjipuktuk/Halifax April 5th.

Sarah Prosper from Eskasoni created the multi-disciplinary performance Samqwan, to raise awareness about the lack of water in many First Nations communities across the country and the deep spiritual relationship Indigenous peoples have with water.

Our host, Diane Obed, is an Inuk graduate student from Nunatsiavut (Labrador), currently living in Waqmiaq, where fresh water flows, near Sipekne'katik. Diane has been engaging in decolonial studies, professionally and personally, for more than a decade.
